Wd20ears how many rpm

Pros: Runs as expected. For the most part, drive access time seems comparable to the RPM it replaced. Haven't monitored temps, so can't comment on that. Time will tell. Pros: Price was really good on sale. Works well as external e-Sata storage. Runs cool even when transferring large files. Overall Review: This isn't a bad drive for storing files. Like any hard drive, you have to test it first using your favorite disc utility, then format and go from there.

I find usually that if it passes an initial test and you don't beat them to death, you can get at least a year out of most hard drives, sometimes more. Pros: -Large capacity, formats to 1.

Cons: As expected with a power saving hard drive, the performance is lacking when compared to rpm drives. Overall Review: These drives are not slow! The reviewers claiming so have likely messed up the partition alignment - EARS drives are advanced format with 4k blocks, and you have to make sure that your partitions are aligned with the 4k blocks. Bought 2 drives: Drive 1 had massive bad sectors. Western Digital's own software "Data Lifeguard Diagnostic for Windows" could not finish it's scan and gave the message "too many bad sectors".

Unfortunately, bad sectors seem to be the theme for many Western Digital hard drives these days. Example: I purchased 5 different models of the Passport Elite portable hard drives, tested all and all had bad sectors!

If you don't, you'll likely "pay for it" later on. Overall Review: Whenever you purchase new hard drive: 1. Go to the drive in Windows, right click while pointing to it with the mouse then go to: 1. Properties 2. Tools 3. Error Checking 4. Click on "Check Now" button 4. Make sure both options are checked; "automatically fix file system errors" and "scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors". Look for part number to identify the right product.

I suggest a WD Black drive. The price is decent on the green drive, but green drives are for data storage, not gaming or for your OS, at least not in your situation. Apr 29, 0 18, If you go onto WD website you can read more about them. Basically they are power saving drives so they have an "intelligent" controller in them that lets them vary the drive speed. It will not go lower than and it will not go higher than I could not tell you about the performance of a single drive as I have mine in a raid 0 array well backed up of course to improve the performance.

If you have another drive that you can put games and your OS, it will be a great storage drive. Basically it comes down to your preferences. It is not going to crawl, but at the same time you will definitely notice snappier performance from say a WD black drive. Jul 14, 16, 3 52, Rusting In Peace :. Pretty sure this drive is in fact RPM. So Black for performance, green for storage Can you suggest an alternative then? Maybe Seagate? Or Samsung's later models? Sep 28, 73 0 18, 5.

I thought that the F4's are green drives and not rpm, F3's are and are good value for money at least in the UK they are. F3's are not as good as WD Black but you would find it hard to tell the difference. I think if you really want a performance drive and you don't want to go to a SSD then you should be picking up a VelociRaptor. That's the GB version which should be enough for your games and OS. I will look for a black WD then
