As more competitors come into the space and low switching cost, Foursquare needs to find innovative offers and partnerships to encourage users. Also, Foursquare would need to refine its vision, in order to communicate clearly the product propositions to users, clients and investors.
Interesting read Natalie. Frankly, until I read this post, I had completely forgotten that Foursquare still existed. I enjoyed being the mayor of a few of my favorite hangouts near school, but I remember how quickly the app became boring, repetitive and frankly, annoying. Based on rumored user figures, Foursquare is struggling to grow. NR, Thanks for the post! Given the increasing number of location-enabled services these days, it seems as though Foursquare had no choice but to pivot.
But, I would disagree that its data is not good enough to actually leverage. Instead, my perspective is that they have now become experts in location-based anything — you name it. Their path forward could be to provide tools and services to companies to build location-based technology into their day to day business, a strategy that they seem to be pursuing at least in some way.
June 9th, by Paula Keller French. Last night I was ousted as Foursquare mayor of my new favorite watering hole by the owner. Is this fair? I think not. The red flag that popped in my head when I got the news via e-mail was not that my pride was hurt by losing my title, but that this is likely an issue across the board for Foursquare advertisers. Probably not, but it may be a good business and marketing decision to sit back and just be an observer when it comes to Foursquare competition on your home turf, especially if you are actively using it as a marketing tool.
This also brings up the question of whether or not your employees should check in when they come to work. One Starbucks patron, as eater. Once you download the Foursquare app to your smartphone, it finds your friends in your contacts and in your Facebook and Twitter accounts. Once you have added friends to your Foursquare account, the app will notify you about what your friends are doing and vice versa. To maximize the benefits of Foursquare, "check in" every time you visit a business or attraction in the place your live or where you are visiting.
When you tap "Check In," the app will pull up a list of nearby places. If you don't see the place you are at, add it to the list. Once you have "checked in," Foursquare will update your status. Friends who use Foursquare will know where you are and what time you arrived.
