By seeing how the menace family had been influenced by their father Benedict, I was able to put a fairly reasonable theory together. The scene where Will, Tessa and Charlotte visit the Lightwoods to talk about the insitiute shows a different side to Gabriel and changed our overall opinion of him.
He is therefore loyal and kind hearted. We believe that in Clockwork Prince we will see Gabriel undergo a major character change as he will rise to stand next to his brother and fight alongside the Institute. You must tell them of the curse and why you left. Possibly it was because he still had memories of her toddling after him on chubby legs, calling Will, Will, after him in breathless Welsh. She had never called him William, only ever Will or his Welsh name, Gwilym. His eyes narrowed, those dark-blue eyes the same color as her own.
When their mother had said affectionately that Will would be a breaker of hearts when he was grown, Cecily had always looked at her dubiously. Will, it seemed to Cecily, was all arms and legs, skinny and disheveled and always dirty. He had not been pleased to see her, not at all. The words she had wanted to say had dissolved on her tongue and she had only matched him, glare for glare.
And so it had been since, Will barely enduring her presence as if she were a pebble in his shoe, a constant annoyance. Cecily took a deep breath, raised her chin, and threw the first knife. Will did not know, would never know, of the hours she had spent up her, alone, practicing, learning to balance the weight of the knife in her hand, discovering that a good knife throw began from behind the body. She held both arms out straight now and drew her right arm back, behind her head, before bringing it, and the weight of her body, forward — the tip of the knife was in line with the target — she released it and snapped her hand back, sucking in a gasp.
Cecily threw it. The second throw, like the first, flew direct to its target and stuck there, vibrating like a mocking finger. She took it with a smile. Confidence was flowing through her veins like new blood. She knew she could do this. She had always been able to climb as high as Will, run as fast, hold her breath as long ….
She threw the knife. It struck its target and she leaped into the air, clapping her hands, forgetting herself for a moment in the thrill of victory.
Her hair came down from its pins and spilled into her face; she pushed it back and grinned at Will. You gave your word. Her time at the Institute had awakened her love for battle, which led to her realization that she belonged at the Institute and her decision to stay.
Eventually, Cecily and Gabriel got married and had three children, namely: Anna , Christopher , and Alexander. After the birth of their third child, Cecily began going hunting less and less.
Sometime before , despite Anna's attempts to keep it secret, Cecily realized that her daughter was interested in women and preferred wearing men's clothes. To show their support for their daughter, she and Gabriel decided to go shopping for some nice tailored suits—so she would not have to keep borrowing her brother's—as a surprise.
Cecily gifted this to her, along with her necklace , after her break up with Ariadne Bridgestock ; she also offered her daughter comfort over her broken heart. It was then that Anna knew for sure that her mother had known for a while and not only accepted but understood her. In , when the Carstairs family moved to London , Cecily and her family attended the welcome party for them at the London Institute.
Cecily was especially pleased that Cordelia Carstairs was planning to become Lucie 's parabatai ; feeling that the bond had been monopolized by men for a long time and was happy to see more girls taking the oath.
Following the Khora demon attack in Regent's Park the next day, Cecily rushed to the Institute to check on her niece, Barbara , and the other wounded. Surprised that such an attack happened during daylight, she bombarded Lucie with questions before subsiding with the hopeful comment that Brother Zachariah and the other Silent Brothers would soon arrive and be able to cure Barbara. After Barbara's death, Cecily and Gabriel joined Tessa and Will at the Institute, keeping one another company in their grief.
They also agreed to take in Thomas , who had wished to stay in London while his parents went to Idris to be with his other sister. After her son was attacked and poisoned, Cecily was distraught at the thought of Anna going out on her own but relented so that she may get stronger wards put up. Later that day, Cecily went with the others to Highgate Cemetery upon receiving word from Thomas and Alastair Carstairs. She rushed to fuss over James who appeared quite injured and ask after Thomas who was in the Silent City , distributing the antidote Christopher had made—who was later thankfully cured and able to return home.
In December, she attended James and Cordelia's wedding along with her husband and children, where she was noticeably engaging in conversations while carrying a remarkably sleeping Alexander.
She and Gabriel gifted patterned china as a wedding present. A few weeks later, she went to Rosamund Wentworth and Thoby Baybrook's engagement party. The next day, she and Gabriel took temporary charge of the London Institute while Will and Tessa left for Paris to resolve a Clave issue. After receiving news of Elias's death, she expressed her concern for Cordelia by asking after her to Lucie. Days later, when Thomas was accused of being a serial killer, she and Gabriel locked the Institute's doors to prevent a mob from entering and harming him.
When Leviathan attacked the Institute, trying to enter the world, she supplied witchlight to those who were fighting as it was too dark to see otherwise. After the battle, she and Alexander stayed in the infirmary with Gabriel, who had been injured.
Cecily, Gabriel, and their sons were present when her brother, Will, died on his deathbed. Cecily is a fierce, strong, and brave person, an attitude she developed when she was young. She is extremely loyal, faithful, and caring to those she trusts, as well as very protective. Typical of the Herondale Shadowhunters leading up to her, Cecily is a natural at fighting. She also has the bitter sense of humor of Herondales, and swears strongly, particularly in Welsh; as a child, she was also said to be quite demanding.
Afraid of nothing, Cecily is stubborn and resistant of authority, even if what she is told to do is for her own good. She is also eager to prove herself and often charges into battle if done for those she cares about, willing to do anything, even risk herself, for them and a good cause. Cecily is also quite a romantic, proven when she tears up while witnessing Gideon's proposal to Sophie, and how quickly she found herself falling for her eventual husband, Gabriel. Cecily is a very beautiful young woman, with gleaming black hair and startling dark blue eyes, traits she shares with her mother, Linette Owens, and brother, Will Herondale.
She has pale skin, high cheekbones, and full lips. She is also quite small, contributing to her semblance of defenselessness, and is often assumed to be fragile and delicate, surprising people with her strength because of it.
Bearing a striking resemblance to Will, she has been described as being "pretty as Will is handsome. When they were young, it is believed that Will and Cecily had a good relationship, since they were siblings.
When Ella died and Will ran away from home, Cecily did not know why he chose to become a Shadowhunter as she believed they were monsters.
