The study indicated severe shortage and unreliable supply of oxygen in regional referral hospitals as well as capacity needs in the provision of oxygen therapy.
Approved by the World Bank on September 1, , and covering both the Mainland and Zanzibar, the Project was focused on filling critical gaps in capacity for laboratory diagnosis and management of COVID cases through procurement of seven oxygen plants as well as supply of oxygen cylinders to neighboring health facilities. In addition, procurement of equipment, reagents, and supplies for testing COVID specimens was completed.
From September to February , 66, tests had been conducted at the National Public Health Laboratory NPHL , surpassing the set target of 10,, and with an average of 1, tests per day against an initial target of per day. The project also sufficiently filled the testing and capacity gaps at the NPHL with the procurement of laboratory reagents and supplies for COVID testing, and five laboratory equipment, in addition to conducting trainings of medical laboratory scientists on molecular diagnosis of COVID To strengthen management of COVID cases, the project procured and installed liquid oxygen generating plants in the seven targeted regional referral hospitals together with the associated piping systems — with all plants currently functional at different output levels depending on demand.
The project supplied oxygen cylinders and essential medicines for both Tanzania Mainland and Zanzibar. The Tanzania Sustainable Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Program was approved by the World Bank Board of Executive Directors in June with the development objective of increasing access to rural water supply and sanitation services in participating districts and strengthening the capacity of select sector institutions to sustain service delivery.

With its focus on delivering sustainable water services, the program has also so far enabled 1, villages to be served by Community-Based Water Supply Organizations CBWSOs with improved operation and maintenance capacity for water supply services, against an end-of-implementation target of 3, villages.
These CBWSOs are not only registered with governing bodies with at least one woman in key positions, but they also have set equitable and affordable tariffs, maintained cash books, and participate in bi-annual district-level community of practice meetings for better coordination and knowledge exchange with other CBWSOs in the same district.
The Water Sector Development Program WSDP-2 , a national program, was intended to strengthen sector institutions for integrated Water Resources Management and improve access to water supply and sanitation services across Tanzania. The country has renewed its commitment in the new program, WSDP-3, covering up to Donor coordination has been strong at the sector level, and sector working groups have been effective.
