Many students say UoPeople uses materials from other real universities provided freely to the public. You can sign up with Khan Academy to get a degree-level knowledge in many courses. All for free, especially science and computer-related courses. I used this website to understand a lot of Mathematical and Computer science concepts I could not understand in School.

Click this link to read further about the UoPeople. The UoP article was inaccurate and may be a hatchet job from a competitor. First off, the school is accredited and is listed in the US Department of Education as an approved organization. There is peer review of papers but some assignments are only graded by the professor and all peer reviewed assignments are reviewed by the professor. If you disagree with an assessment it can be discussed with the professor.
In a year and a half of classes, I never lacked for the ability to communicate with my professor but most of the time, I agreed with the peer review even though it cost me a letter grade. For me, UoP was a challenging and rewarding program and I am proud to consider myself an alumni and as someone who hires people on a regular basis, the school your degree comes matters little on your success and value.
David Overfield MBA The author is so wrong about all these assertions about the University of the people. There are volunteer lecturers from institutions around the world offering their knowledge and skills to make university of the people one of the best most adaptive education system to the present world.
I have the advantage of having attended all types of schools and in a better position to draw informed comparison of quality of learning at the University of the People and other tertiary institutions. I tell you, University of the People is like using a 4G or 5G mobile phone while all the other schools are like using the old Nitel analogue pay phone. Imagine, I am on lock down due to the Covid for the past week and I have continued my education and studies towards my degree unperturbed as if everything is normal.
Do you also realize that University of the People is becoming a model for other conventional universities around the world to launch into full time online based education need on the changes to way of life now around the world. Everything is going digital and tertiary institutions cannot be left behind.
University of the People has the best online learning system in the world today. Unless you are saying Lagos Business School is not accredited take a look at the advisory board of just the business administration department alone and you would see Dr Ogechi Adeola, Associate Dean of Business Administrator of the Lagos Business School is one of the Advisors at th university of the people among other notable university professors from institutions around the world.
This is better intellectually packed than even the best tertiary institutions in not just Nigeria but Africa as a whole. There are indeed professors at this virtual university.
I was made aware of these fees before I signed up; perhaps it was because I went through the information that was provided to me. The best advice I can offer is to read all the information that is provided by any school. Then do it, where ever and however you feel most comfortable. UoPeople is Tuition-free. You claimed the school has not disclosed its fee for course assessment then later went on in the article to indicate that they do charge for undergraduate and for graduate.
The school never denied not charging an application fee, that is no tuition cost. Assessment fees or test fees are no tuition fees. Why would you attack the school? A school that is offering relevant degrees at convenient costs to students who cannot afford to go to regular universities. Then you refer people to Khan Academy.
Are you kidding me? Whoever wrote this piece is either very ignorant or clearly working to sabotage the good image of UoPeople. This university has taken the lead in making education accessible to everyone in the world at very moderate cost.
I am a recipient of a scholarship that is paying the entire cost of assessment in my Master of Education program. I totally agree with you. The author is not just misinformed but totally ignorant. Rather than do a proper research, the author is misinforming others without guided information. Uopeople standard is high and even the peer assessment is reviewed by Professors before giving the final grade.
Also, there are application fee waivers and scholarships. The University is true to its claim of being tuition-free. They make clear emphasis on having assessment fees of which scholarships are provided for as per availability.
Quite frankly, I wonder how the institution manages to survive based on little to nothing, yet churn out such quality education from seasoned Professors. The uninformed writer should check the profile of the Professors and Instructors. Some are from the very best institutions worldwide, the best! This is not even hidden information. I simply have to tell this is wrong article. I am currently enrolled and the amount of work you have to do to complete the assignment is a hard work.
I am a transfer student from community college and I remember I never had to work hard to score an A but at university of the people I have to work hard to complete my assignment. I would say if u do t intent to work hard dont join thinking you can pass easily. There is a hard work to do. I am writing an article on UoPeople.
What is your source on that its scholarships are largely non-existent? So the link the author has about UN saying something concerning UoPeople is wrong. Also, it IS tuition free. Also, as a student, whenever a have a problem or question and I email my advisor about it, I receive a response by the end of the day each and every time. This person does not know his facts, and has wrote a bogus article. In conclusion, the author of this article is just a hater. I have to agree with everyone else here.
Not only did my employer recognize my degree, I was promoted to Project Manager. At first I was leery of attending this school but I kept on with it and realized that the opportunity cost of NOT going was too great to ignore.
I had defaulted on a student loan and, therefore, was not able to attend a more expensive university. This institution provided me a lifeline. While the experience was not always smooth, the materials were solid, the instructors were very good, and the skills I learned invaluable.
It not a mill, it is fully accredited and recognized as an actual and valid institution for higher education by US State Department of education. The only reason why regional accreditors can not accredit UoPeople is because it lacks a physical campus.
Even tho it is not comparable to Stanford, it is far better than most on-campus universities in third world countries.
